Why We Built This Site
Illinois treats most jail and inmate information as public, yet the hard part is rarely the law. It is figuring out which office actually holds the person you are looking for. A pretrial detainee in the Marshall County Jail is handled by the county sheriff, who in this county does not post an online roster. A person sentenced to prison moves to the Illinois Department of Corrections and shows up in a statewide locator instead. Federal and immigration detainees appear in other systems entirely. We built this site to map those paths in plain terms, gathering the rosters, locators, phone numbers, visitation rules, and records-request steps into one reference so a worried family member is not bouncing between a dozen pages.
What You Will Find Here
The pages here walk through each kind of lookup and the offices behind it.
- Inmate lookup help, including jail inmate records, jail roster mugshots, and court records after a jail arrest.
- A detailed page for the Marshall County Jail, with its address, phone, capacity, and visitation rules.
- Step-by-step help for confirming custody by phone and using the statewide Illinois inmate locator.
- How to request a booking record or booking photo, and what kind of response to expect from a small office.
What We Cannot Do
It is worth being blunt about our limits. This is a privately run reference site. We have no tie to any Illinois sheriff's office, jail, corrections department, court, or other government agency, and we cannot act on anyone's custody.
- We cannot release, hold, or transfer anyone in custody.
- We cannot post bond, schedule a visit, or send money for you.
- We cannot give legal advice.
- We cannot promise that every phone number, fee, or address stays current.
Only the sheriff's office or the corrections department can confirm a current custody status, the charges, or a release. This site can point you to the right roster or office, but the official answer comes from them.
Search Partners
Some pages include search boxes powered by third-party providers, and those companies set their own pricing and terms. When one of those tools leads to a paid signup, this site may earn a referral fee, which is what keeps the reference free to use. We do not control how those tools price their service or what their results contain, and using them is always your choice.
